Sensex flat; SBI, ICICI Bank advance 2%

The Sensex opened 112 points higher at 8,851, touched a high of 8,855, but soon pared gains and slipped into the negative zone. The index slipped to a low of 8,651, and is now down 11 points at 8,728.

Tata Steel has zoomed over 8% to Rs 161. ICICI Bank and SBI have rallied over 2% each to Rs 331 and Rs 1,063, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates has moved up nearly 2% to Rs 59. Tata Motors and DLF have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 131 and Rs 185, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro and TCS are up over 1% each at Rs 687 and Rs 540, respectively.

 

Wipro and Bharti Airtel have plunged 2.5% each to Rs 227 and Rs 654, respectively.

ONGC and Infosys have slumped over 2% each to Rs 648 and Rs 1,184, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Hindalco have slipped nearly 2% each to Rs 245 and Rs 51, respectively.

Satyam has shed 1.5% at Rs 230. ITC, Hindustan Unilever and Tata Power are down over 1% each at Rs 168, Rs 230 and Rs 637, respectively.
