Sensex gains 19 pts in early trades

The Sensex gained five points over its last close to open at 6,757, and scaled up to an early high of 6,774 on decent buying support in select old and new economy stocks. It is now up 19 points at 6,771, while the Nifty has added four points to 2,133.

Reliance (up Rs 4 to Rs 575), ONGC (up Rs 4 to Rs 917) and ITC (up Rs 5 to Rs 1,343) have resumed with decent gains. HLL is up a rupee at Rs 136.

ICICI Bank has commenced with a per cent gain (Rs 3) to Rs 385, and SBI is up a rupee at Rs 732. HDFC Bank, however, is down a per cent (Rs 4) to Rs 590.

Infosys and Wipro are up Rs 5 each at Rs 2,210 and Rs 688, respectively. Satyam, however, is marginally weak at Rs 407.

L&T has advanced 1.51% (Rs 16) to Rs 1,101. BHEL has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 6) to Rs 813, while HDFC has gained 1.49% (Rs 12) to Rs 798. Bharti, however, has dropped 2.98% (Rs 6) to Rs 210.

Auto, cement and pharma counters have exhibited mixed trend in early trades.
