Sensex gains 32 pts, HDFC soars 6%

The market has shrugged off its range-bound trend amid strong selective buying in old and new economy stocks, with banking scrips leading the pack.

Although heavyweights continue to remain laggards, the index hit a high of 6,795. While the Sensex is now up 32 points at 6,790, the Nifty has added four points to 2,097.

HDFC Bank has notched up 3.58% gains (Rs 20) to Rs 573, and ICICI Bank has jumped 3.17% (Rs 12) to Rs 407. SBI, however, is trading a tad lower at Rs 682.

Wipro has surged 2.11% (Rs 15) to Rs 730, while Infosys has gained a per cent (Rs 14) to Rs 2,233. TCS and Satyam are flat at Rs 1,280 and Rs 460, respectively.

HDFC has vaulted 5.76% (Rs 45) to Rs 825. Hindalco has added 1.34% (Rs 14) to Rs 1,095. Tisco, however, has dropped 2.56% (Rs 9) to Rs 340.

Gujarat Ambuja has moved up 2.31% (Rs 10) to Rs 457, while other cement majors are up with steady gains.

HLL has tumbled 2.88% (Rs 4) to Rs 143, and ITC has lost a per cent (Rs 17) to Rs 1,564. Reliance is marginally down at Rs 551.
