Sensex gains 70pts; ACC, Guj Amb shine

The Sensex opened marginally (13 points) higher at 13,716. Steady buying in the market saw the index rally to a new all-time intra-day high of 13,799.

The index finally settled with a smart gain of 70 points at a record level of 13,774.

The market breadth was positive - out of 2,630 stocks traded, 1,446 advanced, 1,115 declined and the rest were unchanged today.

INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS

Gujarat Ambuja and ACC surged nearly 3.5% each to Rs 143 and Rs 1,109, respectively.

NTPC rallied 2.5% to Rs 154. Bharti Airtel and Wipro flared up around 2% each to Rs 630 and Rs 602, respectively.

Reliance Communications, ONGC and SBI moved up around 1.7% each to Rs 431, Rs 871 and Rs 1,277, respectively.

Hindalco and ICICI Bank were up around 1% each at Rs 180 and Rs 883, respectively.

Dr.Reddy's shed 2.3% to Rs 737, and HLL slipped 1.5% to Rs 240.

Cipla and BHEL were down over 1% each at Rs 261 and Rs 2,503, respectively.

QUIET LISTING

Lanco Infrastructure today listed on the BSE at Rs 270 as against the issue price of Rs 240. The stock touched a high of Rs 275, and a low of Rs 240, before settling at Rs 241.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

UTI Bank led the value chart with a turnover of Rs 348.20 crore followed by debutant Lanco Infrastructure (Rs 257.15 crore), Hindustan Zinc (Rs 166.40 crore), Info Edge (Rs 132.70 crore) and G E Shipping (Rs 87.15 crore).

Lanco Infrastructure topped volume chart with trades fo around 1.03 crore shares followed by UTI Bank (70 lakh), IFCI (50.35 lakh), NTPC (38.42 lakh) and Donear Industries (38.40 lakh).
