The Sensex opened up 91 points at 17,118. Thereafter, the index jumped to touch a high of 17,196. The Sensex is now up 156 points at 17,183.
The Nifty is up 46 points at 5,100.
Reliance Infrastructure has gained over 2% at Rs 1,386. BHEL and Tata Steel have added 1.8% each to Rs 2,470 and Rs 556, respectively.
Sterlite, Hero Honda, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC, Tata Motors, DLF and Hindalco have moved up 1.5% each.
SBI, Sun Pharma and ONGC are up 1% each at Rs2,202, Rs 1,415 and Rs 1,259, respectively.
However, Reliance Communications continues to remain weak. The stock is down 2% at Rs 243.
