Sensex inches closer to 6,400-mark

Steep rally in old and new economy stocks has seen the index inch closer towards the 6,400 levels. The Sensex has soared 158 points to 6,397. The Nifty has breached the 2,000 levels, and has gained 51 points to 2,006.

Reliance, continuing with its upward trend, has shot up 2.78 (Rs 14) to Rs 520. While ITC has added 1.36% (Rs 19) to Rs 1,405, HLL is up a per cent at Rs 153.

Infosys has notched up 3.70% gains (Rs 72) to Rs 2,024. While Wipro has advanced 3.83% (Rs 26) to Rs 700, Satyam is trading with steady gains at Rs 396.

SBI has zoomed 6.10% (Rs 35) to Rs 617 on strong Q3 results. While ICICI Bank has mopped up 2.90% gains (Rs 10) to Rs 348, HDFC Bank has added 1.84% (Rs 10) to Rs 542.

Gujarat Ambuja has perked up 6% (Rs 25) to Rs 445. While Grasim has gained 1.72% (Rs 22) to Rs 1,315, ACC is marginally up at Rs 351.

Ranbaxy has accelerated by 4.26% (Rs 43) to Rs 1,066. While Cipla has jumped 2.24% (Rs 6) to Rs 274, Dr. Reddy's is up nearly 2% (Rs 14) at Rs 744.

Bajaj has moved up 1.87% (Rs 19) to Rs 1,025. While Maruti has added 2.55% (Rs 11) to Rs 447, Tata Motors is up 2.36% (Rs 11) at Rs 492. Hero Honda, however, is down 1.32% (Rs 7) at Rs 530.

Bharti has spurted 4.24% (Rs 9) to Rs 219, and L&T has scaled up 4.47% (Rs 41) to Rs 951. While Tata Power has moved up 6.38% (Rs 22) to Rs 373, Tisco is up 2.29% (Rs 8) at Rs 380.
