Sensex marginally down; tech stocks weak

The Sensex opened flat at 8,942 - down two points. The index after rebounded for brief while slipped to a low of 8,883. The index is now down 26 points at 8,917.

Technology stocks are the major drag on the index this morning. The BSE IT index has declined 2% to 2,154.

TCS has slumped 4.5% to Rs 496. Wipro has plunged 2.5% to Rs 223, and Infosys has tumbled over 2% to Rs 1,260.

Tata Motors has shed 2% at Rs 163. Larsen & Toubro has dropped 1.8% to Rs 615.

Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, Tata Power and Sterlite have declined around 1.5% each to Rs 232, Rs 1,367, Rs 665 and Rs 289, respectively.

 

Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied nearly 2% to Rs 381. ACC has gained 1.7% at Rs 572.

Tata Steel and Hindalco have moved up 1.4% each to Rs 171 and Rs 43, respectively.

NTPC is up 1% at Rs 173.
