Sensex moves sideways; Bharti Airtel slips 3%

The Sensex exhibits sideways movement and is now at 17,228, up 163 points. The Nifty is 45 points higher at 5,165.

Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Wipro, Infosys and Hindalco have added over 2% each to Rs 662, Rs 2,695 and Rs 142, respectively on the BSE.

Tata Steel, HDFC, Sterlite Industries, HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries have added 1-2% each on the BSE.

Bharti Airtel has slipped 3% to Rs 267. The other losers are Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Motors and ACC, down 0.5% each.

The market breadth continues to trade positive, out of 2,570 shares traded, 1,774 have advanced and 715 have declined so far on the BSE.

The BSE midcap and the smallcap indices added 1% each.

Among the sectoral indices, IT index has added 2% at 5,266 and the metal index is up 1% on the BSE.

HCL Tech and Mphasis added 2.5% each at Rs 379 and Rs 595, respectively on the IT index.
