Sensex near day's high; breadth marginally -ve

The Sensex has recovered smartly and now rallied to a the day's high. The index is up 99 points at 9,814. Earlier in the day, the index had pared early gains and slipped to a low of 9,633.

Satyam has soared 6.5% to Rs 168, and Wipro has surged 5.4% to Rs 256.

Reliance Infrastructure has rallied nearly 5% to Rs 576. Reliance Communications has gained 4% at Rs 211.

Jaiprakash Associates and TCS have moved up 3.8% each to Rs 80 and Rs 495, respectively.

SBI has advanced 3.5% to Rs 1,244. Infosys and BHEL have gained over 3% each at Rs 1,177 and Rs 1,382, respectively.

 

Tata Steel has plunged 4.4% to Rs 209. ONGC has shed 3% at Rs 695.

Sterlite and Reliance have slipped nearly 3% each to Rs 264 and Rs 1,313, respectively.

The market breadth is marginally negative - out of 2,121 stocks traded so far, 1,075 have declined, 971 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
