 "Sensex, Nifty sets for biggest weekly gain in four years")
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) S&P BSE Sensex and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty 50 index are set to report their biggest weekly gain in past four years after a sharp rally in the stock market post the Budget announcement.
At 12:24 pm, the Sensex was trading at 24,598 and Nifty at 7,468, gaining 6% each during the current week, heads for best week since December 2011. The BSE Mid and Small cap indices too gained 6.5% and 7.6%, respectively during the week.
Earlier, for the week ended December 2, 2011, the benchmark indices had rallied 7% each on global cues.
Strong inflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and foreign portfolio investors (FPI) have helped the market to rebound sharply. Between February 29 and March 3, 2016, the FIIs & FPIs have made net investments of Rs 2,092 crore, the stock exchange provisional data shows.
Total investor wealth of BSE-listed companies in past five trading sessions increased by Rs 5.17 lakh crore from Rs 86.34 lakh crore on February 26 to Rs 91.52 lakh crore today.
As many as 167 stocks from the S&P BSE500 index have rallied more than 10% each during the week. Just Dial, Suven Life Sciences, HMT, Inox Wind and Jai Corp surged over 25% each.
Among the sectoral indices, the BSE real estate index, S&P BSE Realty, surged 12%, followed by the banking index Bankex and Capital Goods index, which up 10% each, respectively.
