Sensex off day's high; breadth very +ve

The Sensex is off the day's high, and is now up 157 points at 9,623. Earlier in the day the index opened 75 points higher on the back of positive global cues and firmed up to a high of 9,655 on hopes of some positive annoucement from today's interim Railway Budget.

Reliance Infrastrructure has surged 4% to Rs 572. Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Steel have rallied 3.7% each to Rs 311 and Rs 192, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates, BHEL and Larsen & Toubro have gained 2.3% each at Rs 75, Rs 1,458 and Rs 704, respectively.

ACC, SBI and Maruti have moved up 2.7% each to Rs 564, Rs 1,191 and Rs 630, respectively.

 

Reliance Communications, Grasim and ICICI Bank have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 177, Rs 1,383 and Rs 432, respectively.

Reliance has added 2.3% to Rs 1,384. Hindalco and NTPC are up around 1.5% each at Rs 46 and Rs 182, respectively.

Sun Pharma, however, has slipped 1.6% to Rs 1,087.

The market breadth is significantly positive - out of 2,016 stocks traded so far, 1,369 have advanced, 567 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
