Sensex off day's high; Jaiprakash soars 8%

The Sensex touched a high of 8,944, and has now pared some gains. The index is up 152 points at 8,909.

Jaiprakash Associates has zoomed over 8% to Rs 77, and Mahindra & Mahindra has soared over 7% to Rs 370.

DLF, Ranbaxy and Reliance Communications have surged around 6% each to Rs 162, Rs 147 and Rs 156, respectively.

ICICI Bank has moved up 3.7% to Rs 320. SBI and Tata Motors have rallied 3.3% each to Rs 985 and Rs 167, respectively.

Reliance has advanced nearly 3% to Rs 1,319. Sterlite has added 2.5% to Rs 290.

Maruti and Sun Pharma have slipped nearly 2% each to Rs 699 and Rs 1,004, respectively.

 

The market breadth is positive - out of 2,471 stocks traded so far, 1,502 have advanced, 868 have declined and 101 are unchanged.
