Sensex off day's low; breadth extremely -ve

The Sensex opened 153 points lower at 9,434, and soon dipped to a low of 9,352. The index, thereafter, soon rebounded into the positive zone and touched a high of 9,630 - up 278 points from the day's low.

The index, however, could not hold gains and slipped back deeper into red to a low of 9,251 - down 379 points from the day's high. The Sensex is now down 189 points at 9,398.

Satyam has recovered partially from its day's low of Rs 11.50, but is still down a whopping 47% at Rs 21 on hefty volumes of around five crore shares so far on the BSE.

 

DLF has slumped nearly 19% to Rs 191. Reliance Communications has tumbled 11.5% to Rs 183.

Tata Steel has plunged over 10% to Rs 210. Reliance Infrastructure has shed 9.3% at Rs 507.

Larsen & Toubro, Sterlite and Jaiprakash Associates have slipped over 8% each to Rs 711, Rs 277 and Rs 66, respectively.

Tata Motors and Reliance have declined 6.5% each to Rs 162 and Rs 1,121, respectively.

TCS has surged 5.6% to Rs 532, and Hindustan Unilever has moved up 4.5% to Rs 263.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Infosys have gained 2.8% each at Rs 309 and Rs 1,218, respectively.

Maruti has advanced over 2% to Rs 577. Wipro is up over 1% at Rs 247.

The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,222 stocks traded so far, 1,836 have declined, 325 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
