The Sensex has recovered from the day's low of 9,017, and is now down 123 points at 9,079. Earlier in the day, the index opened 40 points higher at 9,242, and soon touched a high of 9,247.
Sterlite has slumped 6.5% to Rs 261. Mahindra & Mahindra has tumbled 5.5% to Rs 268.
Maruti has dropped nearly 4% to Rs 579. HDFC, TCS and Tata Motors have plunged around 3% each to Rs 1,397, Rs 484 and Rs 131, respectively.
Infosys and Wipro have shed 2.5% each at Rs 1,250 and Rs 219, respectively.
Larsen & Toubro, DLF and Reliance Communicatons have dropped over 2% each to Rs 640, Rs 137 and Rs 160, respectively.
Tata Steel has rallied nearly 3% to Rs 184. ICICI Bank has advanced over 1% to Rs 394.
Out of 2,389 stocks traded so far, 1,364 have declined, 920 have advanced and 105 are unchanged.
