The Sensex after a negative start at 9,822 - down 106 points - slipped deeper into red to a low of 9,726. The index, however, has now recovered partially and is now down 146 points at 9,782.
Jaiprakash Associates has slumped 7.3% to Rs 81. Tata Motors has tumbled nearly 6% to Rs 177.
Satyam has shed 4.5% at Rs 155. and Larsen & Toubro has plunged 3.6% to Rs 785.
Sterlite, Tata Steel and TCS have dropped over 3% each to Rs 272, Rs 218 and Rs 495, respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra has slipped over 2.5% to Rs 299. ONGC has declined 2% to Rs 696.
Reliance Communications has moved up 1.5% to Rs 217. ACC has added 1% to Rs 493.
