The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 129 points at 8,763, and soon tumbled to a low of 8,644. The index has recovered partially and is now down 210 points at 8,681.
Tata Steel has slumped over 4% to Rs 165.
ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Reliance Infrastructure have plunged around 3.5% each to Rs 316, Rs 854 and Rs 474, respectively.
Wipro and ONGC have shed 3.3% each at Rs 201 and Rs 669, respectively.
HDFC, ACC and Hindustan Unilever have dropped over 3% each to Rs 1,229, Rs 523 and Rs 246, respectively.
TCS has slipped nearly 3% to Rs 467. Reliance Communications, Grasim and SBI are down around 2.5% each at Rs 152, Rs 1,337 and Rs 1,003, respectively.
Reliance is down over 1% at Rs 1,249.
