Sensex opens above 6,600-mark, up 39 pts

Gains in the opening bell in select heavyweights, tech, cement and pharma majors lifted the index above the 6,600 mark. The Sensex is now firm at 6,617 - up 39 points, while the Nifty has moved up 13 points over its yesterday's close at 2,076.

Infosys has opened strong with a gain of 1.17% (Rs 24) at Rs 2,068. While Reliance has added Rs 3 to Rs 545, ITC is up a notch at Rs 1,330.

ONGC is up Rs 3 at Rs 821. Wipro and Satyam are up a per cent each at Rs 691 and Rs 405, respectively.

Ranbaxy has gained 1.37% (Rs 14) to Rs 1,058. Other pharma stocks have also commenced in the green with steady gains.

ACC is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 383. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have added steady gains at Rs 1,354 and Rs 455, respectively.

HLL, which is to come up with its Q4 & FY04 numbers today, is down a rupee at Rs 153.

Bharti has edged lower in the opening trades and has shed 2% (Rs 4) to Rs 205.
