The Sensex has opened around 35 points higher at 17, 199. The index is now at 17,292, up 122 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,156, up 33 points.
Sterlite has soared 2% to Rs 894 and Hindalco gas advanced over 1.5% to Rs 145, respectively.
Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Communications are up 1% each at Rs 309, Rs 1,071 and Rs 176, respectively.
Tata Motors and ACC on the other hand are the major losers on the Sensex, down over 0.5% each at Rs 723 and Rs 793, respectively.
