Sensex opens firm, up 31 pts

The Sensex opened firm with a gap of 14 points over its last close at 6,729. After hitting a high of 6,751 on strong gains in select stocks, the Sensex is now up 31 points at 6,746.

The Nifty has gained six points to 2,094.

Reliance has resumed with a per cent gain (Rs 6) at Rs 541.

Hero Honda, after a sharp slump yesterday, has advanced 1.81% (Rs 10) to Rs 563. Bajaj has logged 1.35% gains (Rs 17) to Rs 1,244.

Ranbaxy has gained 1.36% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,116. Other pharma counters, too, have opened in the green with steady gains.

ICICI Bank is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 395, and SBI is up Rs 2 at Rs 673.

Infosys (up Rs 6 to Rs 2,257) has opened with steady gains. While Satyam is up at Rs 455, Wipro is marginally weak at Rs 715.
