Sensex opens higher in early trades

The Sensex opened 14 points higher over its last close at 6,584 and added another 13 points to touch an early high of 6,597 on selective buying in old and new economy stocks. It is now up seven points at 6,577, while the Nifty has added three points to 2,064.

Reliance has added Rs 3 to Rs 542. While HLL has commenced flat at Rs 140, ITC is down a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 1,280.

Grasim has added 1.20% (Rs 16) to Rs 1,335. Gujarat Ambuja and ACC are up a per cent each at Rs 436 and Rs 363, respectively.

Hero Honda has logged 1.17% gains (Rs 6) to Rs 527, and Tata Motors is up a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 475.

HDFC Bank (up Rs 2 to Rs 571) has clocked steady gains. Other banking stocks have eased in early trades.

ONGC has resumed weak with a loss of Rs 4 at Rs 838. BHEL has slipped a per cent (Rs 12) to Rs 850.
