Sensex opens on a strong note

The markets have opened on a strong note with the Sensex gaining 194 points at 19,418 and the Nifty adding 59 points at 5,822. In the broader markets, the midcap index is up 0.8% and the smallcap gained 0.6% to open at 9,098.

On the BSE sectoral chart, Auto, Consumer Durables, Metal and Health Care indices have gained 1% each in the starting trades. IT gaining 0.2% is at the bottom.

Hindalco, BHEL up 3% are the top gainers on the Sensex in the opening trades followed by Bajaj Auto, Reliance Infrastructure, Sterlite, Jaiprakash Associates,Tata Motors,Reliance Communications, Hero Honda, Bharti Airtel, DLF, Cipla and ICICI Bank adding 1- 2%

On the losers list are Maruti Suzuki, L&T down nearly 1%, ONGC and ITC losing 0.2% and 0.1% respectively.

The market breadth is very positive. 1045 stocks have advanced while 404 have declined
