Sensex opens steady, up 13 pts

The Sensex, after getting battered in late noon trades yesterday, has logged gains in early trades following steady buying in select old and new economy stocks.

The index is up 13 points at 6,548, while the Nifty has resumed weak at 2,048 - down seven points.

Infosys has commenced in the green to Rs 2,044 - up Rs 15. While Reliance is marginally up at Rs 530, Wipro has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 7) to Rs 695.

HPCL has added 1.67% (Rs 6) to Rs 362, and ONGC is up Rs 2 at Rs 824.

ICICI Bank has gained 1.19% (Rs 4) to Rs 364, and SBI is up a notch at Rs 643. HDFC Bank, however, is down a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 556.

Hero Honda and Tata Motors are up Rs 3 each at Rs 536 and Rs 495, respectively. Bajaj, however, is down a per cent (Rs 10) at Rs 1,064.

While ITC is trading lower by Rs 6 at Rs 1,325, HLL is down a tad at Rs 162.

Bharti has slipped in early deals to Rs 218 - down Rs 3 or 1.25%. HDFC has tumbled 2.92% (Rs 24) to Rs 792.
