Sensex over 17K in opening trades

The Sensex opened 21 points higher on the Sensex and soon crossed the 17K mark to touch a high of 17,065.59 owing to positive global cues. The index is now at 17,059, up 133 points.

The NSE Nifty is at 5,073, up 41 points

Hindalco has topped the list of gainers on the BSE, up around 3% at Rs 142. Mahindra & Mahindra, Sterlite and Maruti have advnaced over 2% each at Rs 1,053, Rs 876 and Rs 1,595, respectively.

Tata Motors, DLF, Hero Honda  and Jaiprakash Associates have added over 1.5% each. The other prominent gainers include Tata Power, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, Reliance and Reliance Communications, up 1% each.

HDFC Bank and Infosys are the marginal losers on the BSE, down below 0.5% each.
