The Sensex after a fairly strong start has pared gains and is now up 144 points at 8,304. Earlier in the day, the index opened 115 points higher at 8,275, and soon touched a high of 8,376.
ICICI Bank and Sterlite have surged 4.5% each to Rs 275 and Rs 255, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever has soared 4% to Rs 225. Maruti has rallied 3.7% to Rs 675.
HDFC and Infosys have moved up 3% each to Rs 1,294 and Rs 1,233, respectively.
Reliance, BHEL and Jaiprakash Associates have gained 2.7% each at Rs 1,186, Rs 1,335 and Rs 68, respectively.
ITC and Larsen & Toubro have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 162 and Rs 576, respectively.
Tata Motors, Reliance Communications and Tata Steel are up around 2% each at Rs 140, Rs 135 and Rs 155, respectively.
Bharti Airtel has plunged 5% to Rs 558. Tata Power has slipped nearly 2% at Rs 611.
