The Sensex after touching a high of 9,327, has pared gains and is now up 121 points at 9,214. Earlier in the day, the index opened 70 points higher at 9,163, and then extended gains.
Banking stocks are witnessing profit-taking. Auto stocks too are in negative territory. Realty, metal and energy stocks, however, continue to hold firm.
Jaiprakash Associates has surged 5.6% to Rs 59, and Sterlite has soared 4.7% to Rs 248.
TCS has rallied over 4% to Rs 581. ONGC, Reliance Communications, HDFC Bank and Tata Steel have gained 3% each at Rs 717, Rs 202, Rs 948 and Rs 155, respectively.
Reliance Infrastructure and Infosys have moved up 2.5% each to Rs 515 and Rs 1,270, respectively.
Grasim, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance, Bharti Airtel and DLF are up over 2% each at Rs 909, Rs 743, Rs 1,156, Rs 685 and Rs 202, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 4.5% at Rs 269. Maruti has slipped over 4% to Rs 514.
ICICI Bank has dropped nearly 2% to Rs 345, and HDFC is down 1% at Rs 1,449.
