Sensex pares gains, now up 20pts

The Sensex slipped to a low of 10,238, and is now up 20 points at 10,244.

Bajaj Auto and HLL have pared gains and are now up over 3% each at Rs 2,628 and Rs 249, respectively.

Tata Steel is up 2.5% at Rs 422. ONGC (Rs 1,200), NTPC (Rs 132) and ITC (Rs 167) have gained over 2% each.

Satyam, Reliance Energy, Tata Power and TCS are up 1-2% each.

Grasim has shed 2.7% to Rs 1,632. Ranbaxy has dropped over 2% to Rs 453.

HDFC Bank, SBI, Hindalco, Gujarat Ambuja and BHEL  have declined 1-2% each.

The market breadth has turned to extremely negative. Out of 2,548 stocks traded so far, 1,638 have declined, 841 have advanced and 69 are unchanged.
