The Sensex has pared gains is now up 125 points at 9,062.
Sterlite, Reliance and ITC have surged 4.3% each to Rs 228, Rs 1,190 and Rs 168, respectively.
ACC, Mahindra & Mahindra, DLF, Maruti and Ranbaxy have rallied around 3.5% each to Rs 420, Rs 311, Rs 232, Rs 530 and Rs 220, respectively.
Grasim has moved up 2.7% to Rs 1,002. BHEL, HDFC Bank and Jaiprakash Assocaites are up 1.7% each at Rs 1,289, Rs 933 and Rs 69, respectively.
Satyam has plunged 3.8% to Rs 233. Tata Motors and Larsen & Toubro have slipped around 1.5% each to Rs 137 and Rs 754, respectively.
The market breadth is negative - out of 2,424 stocks traded so far, 1,345 have declined, 1,003 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
