Sensex pares gains, up 170pts

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 207 points at 17,825, and touched a high of 17,912. The index has pared some gains and is now up 170 points at 17,787.

The NSE Nifty is up 54 points at 5,208.

Hindalco and Reliance Energy have surged 3% each to Rs 182 and Rs 1,621, respectively.

Tata Motors and Satyam have rallied 2% each to Rs 720 and Rs 431, respectively.

Maruti and Tata Steel have also rallied 2% each to Rs 784 and Rs 788, respectively.

Reliance has gained 1.8% at Rs 2,526. ACC, NTPC and Reliance Communications have moved up 1.7% each to Rs 779, Rs 201 and Rs 595, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has advanced 1.5% to Rs 217, and Wipro has added 1.3% to Rs 417.

DLF, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank and Grasim are up over 1% each at Rs 824, Rs 642, Rs 1,550 and Rs 2,865, respectively.
