Sensex pares gains, up 229pts; NTPC slips 1%

The Sensex has pared gains and is now up 229 points at 19,168.

All index stocks are in positive zone.

HDFC Bank has zoomed 4.5% to Rs 1,680, and ICICI Bank has soared 2.8% to Rs 1,158.

Maruti has surged 3% to Rs 995. Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied 2.7% to Rs 729, and Tata Motors has added 2% to Rs 735.

Wipro, Infosys and TCS have advanced nearly 2% each to Rs 458, Rs 1,599 and Rs 993, respectivley. Satyam has moved up 1.5% to Rs 431.

HDFC has gained 1.7% at Rs 2,755. ITC and DLF are up 1.3% each at Rs 190 and Rs 891, respectively.

NTPC has slipped 1% to Rs 229.
