The Sensex opened with a significant positive gap of 312 points at 9,277 following the double bonanza - RBI rate cut and government's stimulus package - over the weekend. The index touched a high of 9,406, and since then pared has pared gains. The Sensex is now up 243 points at 9,209.
Grasim has soared nearly 6% to Rs 995. Reliance Infrastructure and HDFC Bank have surged 5.5% each to Rs 562 and Rs 937, respectively.
HDFC has rallied 5% to Rs 1,508. Tata Steel, Reliance Communications, DLF, Wipro and Tata Power have gained around 4.5% each at Rs 191, Rs 206, Rs 212, Rs 237 and Rs 698, respectively.
Jaiprakash Associates, Bharti Airtel and ACC have moved up 3.7% each to Rs 69, Rs 690 and Rs 444, respectively. TCS has added 3.5% to Rs 540.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Sterlite, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, ONGC and Larsen & Toubro are up around 3% each.
