Sensex pares gains, up 287pts

The Sensex has pared gains and is now up 287 points at 14,428. The index had touched a high of 14,680 in opening trades.

HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have zoomed around 5% each to Rs 1,125 and Rs 866, respectively.

Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel have soared 3.5% each to Rs 563 and Rs 822, respectively.

ONGC, Ranbaxy and Reliance Communications have rallied nearly 3% each to Rs 805, Rs 363 and Rs 508, respectively.

Bajaj Auto, SBI and BHEL have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 2,309, Rs 1,558 and Rs 1,597, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever, Reliance, ITC and Larsen & Toubro have moved up 2.3% each to Rs 197, Rs 1,795, Rs 157 and Rs 2,358, respectively.

Out of 2,612 stocks traded so far, 1,993 have advanced, 567 have declined and 52 are unchanged.
