Sensex pares gains, up 373pts; Wipro down 2%

The Sensex has pared some gains and is now up 373 points at 16,980. The index had earlier touched a high of 17,141.

The NSE Nifty has moved up 92 points to 4,930.

Reliance has soared 4.7% to Rs 2,434. Tata Steel and HDFC Bank have surged 4.4% each to Rs 742 and Rs 1,461, respectively.

HDFC has rallied 3.5% to Rs 2,715. BHEL and ICICI Bank have moved up over 3% each to Rs 1,937 and Rs 1,097,  respectively.

ITC and ACC have gained nearly 3% each at Rs 190 and Rs 738, respectively. Reliance Energy has added 2.4% to Rs 1,573.

Tata Motors has advanced over 2% to Rs 708. Ambuja Cements, SBI, Larsen & Toubro and NTPC are up around 1.5% each at Rs 115, Rs 2,089, Rs 3,315 and Rs 188, respectively.

Cipla and Wipro have shed 2.3% each at Rs 182 and Rs 412, respectively.
