Sensex pares gains, up 417pts; Cipla drops 3%

The Sensex pared gains and is now 417 points at 17,746. The index touched a fresh all-time intra-day high of 17,953 today.

NTPC has zoomed 6.3% to Rs 219, and Reliance Communications has soared 5.7% to Rs 647.

ICICI Bank, Reliance Energy and Reliance have surged around 5% each to Rs 1,114, Rs 1,417 and Rs 2,403, respectively.

ONGC has flared up 4.6% to Rs 1,043. Infosys has gained 3.3% at Rs 1,956.

Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and HDFC have rallied nearly 3% each to Rs 795, Rs 781 and Rs 2,580, respectively.

Cipla has dropped 2.6% to Rs 184.

Out of 2,738 stocks traded so far, 1,323 have advanced, 1,339 have declined and 76 are unchanged.
