The Sensex opened 89 points higher at 10,425, and soon touched a high of 10,470 in the opening trades. The index, however, has pared some gains and is now up 45 points at 10,381.
Sterlite, Satyam and Tata Steel have surged around 4.5% each to Rs 330, Rs 187 and Rs 257, respectively.
Hindalco has rallied over 3% at Rs 60. Jaiprakash Associates has moved up 2.8% to Rs 104.
Wipro and Maruti have advanced around 2% each to Rs 248 and Rs 573, respectively.
Grasim, HDFC and Infosys are up 1.7% each at Rs 1,358, Rs 1,713 and Rs 1,186, respectively.
DLF has plunged 3% to Rs 271. SBI and ACC are down around 1% each at Rs 1,309 and Rs 540, respectively.
