Sensex pares gains, up 824pts

The Sensex has pared gains is now up 824 points at 17,554. The index had touched a high of 17,997.

The NSE Nifty is up 292 points at 5,191.

Reliance Energy has zoomed 16% to Rs 1,990. NTPC has soared over 12% to Rs 221, and Satyam has surged over 11% to Rs 394.

Reliance has rallied 7.8% to Rs 2,542. BHEL, Bajaj Auto and TCS have advanced around 7% each to Rs 2,129, Rs 2,209 and Rs 855, respectively.

Hindalco has gained 6.5% at Rs 160. Reliance Communications and SBI have advanced over 6% each to Rs 611 and Rs 2,290, respectively.

Grasim and ITC are up 5% each at Rs 3,008 and Rs 193, respectively.

Out of 2,686 stocks traded, 1,342 have declined, 1,312 have advanced and 32 are unchanged.
