Sensex perks up 65pts; Rel Comm zooms 5%

The Sensex opened marginally higher at 11,859. After moving up in the morning session the index slipped into red in the noon deals to touch a low of 11,825.

Fresh buying at lower levels saw the index rebound into the positive zone. The index touched a high of 11,941 - up 116 points. The Sensex finally settled with a gain of 65 points at 11,919.

The BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices advanced over 1% each to 5041 and 6031, respectively.

The market breadth was positive - out of 2,615 stocks traded, 1,562 advanced, 980 declined and the rest were unchanged today.

INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS

Reliance Communications zoomed 5% to Rs 316. Hero Honda rallied 3.5% to Rs 736.

BHEL and Maruti surged over 3% each to Rs 2,326 and Rs 941, respectively.

Reliance Energy and Hindalco advanced nearly 2% each to Rs 488 and Rs 184, respectively.

Bharti Airtel, Ranbaxy, Dr.Reddy's and Grasim moved up around 1.5% each at Rs 430, Rs 417, Rs 738 and Rs 2,335, respectively.

HLL, Cipla and ITC were up over 1% each at Rs 241, Rs 257 and Rs 188, respectively.

HDFC slipped 1% to Rs 1,339. Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank and Wipro were the only other notable losers.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

Reliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 152.70 crore followed by Jet Airways (Rs 149.25 crore), Century Textiles (Rs 108 crore), Reliance Communications (Rs 102.35 crore) and Bombay Dyeing (Rs 94.10 crore).

Interface Financal led the volume chart with trades of around 56.58 lakh shares followed by Birla VXL (54 lakh), ITI (50 lakh), HMT (41.16 lakh) and Exide Industries (41 lakh).
