Sensex rebounds; auto, cement stocks log gains

The Sensex has rebounded into the positive territory owing to buying at select auto and cement counters. The index is now up seven points at 9655.

Grasim has spurted 2% to Rs 1,470, and Gujarat Ambuja is up 1.7% at Rs 89.20. ACC is up nearly 1% at Rs 559.

Maruti has rallied 2% to Rs 676 followed by Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,090, up 1.9%. Hero Honda has gained 1.5% at Rs 869. Tata Motors, however, is down over 1% at Rs 652.

BHEL at Rs 1,450 and Cipla at Rs 446 are up over 1% each.

While SBI has advanced 2% to Rs 936, ICICI Bank has declined 1.6% to Rs 604.

Satyam at Rs 757 has declined over 1%.

Out of total of 2,445 stocks traded so far, 1,087 have advanced, 1,311 have declined and the rest are unchanged.

Mastek has zoomed over 10% to Rs 679. Hindustan Zinc has rallied nearly 9% at Rs 283 followed by FDC up 8% at Rs 56.70. Bank of India, Union Bank, Andhra Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, J&K Bank, ING Vysya Bank, Federal Bank, Bongaigaon Refinery, Engineers India, MRPL, IDBI, Alok Industries, Videocon International and Syndicate Bank have gained in the range of 3-5% each.

Tamilnadu Newsprint at Rs 94 and Merck at Rs 562 are down 2% each. Century Enka, Finolex Industries, United Phosphorous, Balaji Tele, Indian Oil, GTL, VisualSoft and HCL Inofsys are also in red.
