Sensex rebounds; Hindalco, DLF weak

The Sensex has rebounded into the positive zone and is now up 42 points at 8,821. Earlier in the day, the index had opened with a positive gap of 126 points, and touched a high of 8,928. Thereafter, the index exhibited lacklustre movement before slipping into red to a low of 8,699.

Bharti Airtel has surged 5.8% to Rs 617.

Jaiprakash Associates and Sterlite have rallied 2.7% each to Rs 67 and Rs 244, respectively.

HDFC, Grasim and ACC have gained around 2.5% each at Rs 1,408, Rs 1,171 and Rs 490, respectively.

Sun Pharma has advanced 2% to Rs 1,094. SBI, BHEL and Reliance are up around 1.5% each at Rs 1,100, Rs 1,373 and Rs 1,135, respectively.

 

Ranbaxy and DLF have slumped around 8.5% each to Rs 187 and Rs 166, respectively. Hindalco has tumbled 6.7% to Rs 44.

Tata Steel shed 4.5% at Rs 180, and Tata Motors has dropped 3.7% to Rs 135.

Larsen & Toubro slipped 3.3% to Rs 664. Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti are down around 3% each at Rs 287 and Rs 525, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure is down 2.8% at Rs 506.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,391 stocks traded so far, 1,598 have declined, 700 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
