Sensex recovers partially; breadth +ve

The Sensex has recovered partially and is now down 203 points at 10,331. Earlier in the day, the index opened with a negative gap of 251 points at 10,284, and touched a low of 10,172.

Hindalco has slumped 5.5% to Rs 57. Reliance Communications and ICICI Bank have plunged around 4.5% each to Rs 208 and Rs 358, respectively.

DLF, HDFC Bank and ONGC have shed around 4% each at Rs 201, Rs 1,020 and Rs 851, respectively.

SBI, Mahindra & Mahindra, Sterlite and Bharti Airtel have dropped around 3.5% each to Rs 1,088, Rs 449, Rs 372 and Rs 637, respectively.

 

Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance and Infosys have declined around 3% each.

Tata Motors has zoomed over 5% to Rs 220. Sun Pharma has gained 2.5% at Rs 1,095.

Ranbaxy has rallied 2% to Rs 186. Hindustan Unilever and NTPC are up 1.5% each at Rs 230 and Rs 187, respectively.

The market breadth is positive - out of 2,213 stocks traded so far, 1,409 have advanced, 734 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
