Sensex recovers partially; HDFC surges 5%

The Sensex has recovered partially from the day's low of 8,729, and is now down 126 points at 8,829.

Grasim and ACC have slumped 4.5% each to Rs 1,391 and Rs 534, respectively. Reliance Infrastructure has tumbled 4.3% to 488.

Ranbaxy, Wipro and Maruti have shed around 4% each at Rs 163, Rs 207 and Rs 669, respectively.

ONGC has dropped 3.8% to Rs 688, and Sterlite has slipped 3.5% to Rs 244.

Reliance Communications has declined 3.3% to Rs 154. Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel are down 3% each at Rs 158 and Rs 632, respectively.

HDFC, however, has surged 4.5% to Rs 1,265.

 

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,346 stocks traded, 1,350 have declined, 886 have advanced and the rest were unchanged.
