Sensex recovers smartly, TCS, Bharti gain 3%

The Sensex has recovered smartly from the day's low of 8,702, and is now down 23 points at 8,893.

Satyam has slumped 5% to Rs 228, and Sterlite have plunged 4.5% to Rs 209.

DLF, Tata Steel and Mahindra & Mahindra have dropped 3.3% each to Rs 192, Rs 155 and Rs 299, respectively.

SBI has shed 3% at Rs 1,148. ICICI Bank and Ranbaxy have slipped nearly 3% each to Rs 326 and Rs 214, respectively.

HDFC Bank and Grasim are down around 2% each at Rs 838 and Rs 915, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure has surged 5% to Rs 509. Tata Power has rallied 4.6% to Rs 660.

 

TCS and Bharti Airtel have gained 2.7% each at Rs 521 and Rs 636, respectively.

BHEL, Maruti and NTPC are up aruond 1.5% each at Rs 1,303, Rs 519 and Rs 152, respectively.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,436 stocks traded so far, 1,398 have declined, 964 have advanced and 74 are unchanged.
