Sensex recovers, up 343pts; Infosys up 4%

The Sensex from a fresh all-time intra-day high of 17,953, plunged into red to a low of 17,288 - down 665 points. The index has recovered partially and is now up 343 points at 17,672.

Infosys and HDFC have zoomed over 4% each to Rs 1,974 and Rs 2,610, respectively.

TCS has soared 3.5% to Rs 1,075. NTPC and ONGC have surged around 2.5% each to Rs 211 and Rs 1,021, respectively.

ICICI Bank has rallied over 2% to Rs 1,080. Wipro and Reliance Communications have gained 1.8% each at Rs 462 and Rs 623, respectively.

Reliance, Bajaj Auto, BHEL and Larsen & Toubro have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 2,326, Rs 2,524, Rs 2,020 and Rs 2,855, respectively.

Hindalco, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank are the other major gainers.

Cipla has plunged 3% to Rs 183. Ranbaxy, SBI and Tata Steel have slipped around 2% each to Rs 431, Rs 1,858 and Rs 826, respectively.

Ambuja Cements, Reliance Energy and Dr.Reddy's are down over 1% each.

Out of 2,780 stocks traded so far, 1,849 have declined, 878 have advanced and 53 are unchanged.
