Sensex rises on fresh buying

The market has shrugged off its lacklustre trend in mid-noon trades as fresh buying, particularly, in select old economy stocks has spurred the gains of the index. The Sensex, which touched a high of 6,231, is now up 25 points at 6,217.

The Nifty, too, has edged higher from its early weakness, and is now up nine points at 1,943 on selective buying.

Reliance is still trading with a per cent gain (Rs 5) at Rs 516. While ITC (down Rs 11 to Rs 1,242) is trading off lows, HLL is trading on a lacklustre note at Rs 142.

Infosys has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 14) to Rs 1,977. While Wipro is trading off-highs at Rs 690 (up Rs 9), Satyam is trading weaker by Rs 2 at Rs 364.

Reliance Energy has advanced 2.27% (Rs 11) to Rs 510, while BHEL has added 1.58% (Rs 11) to Rs 706. Tisco has moved up 2.57% (Rs 9) to Rs 353. Tata Power, however, has declined 1.54% (Rs 6) to Rs 371. Zee has gained 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 153.

ICICI Bank is up 1.15% (Rs 4) at Rs 355. SBI (up Rs 3 to Rs 587) is trading with steady gains.

ACC has moved up 1.56% (Rs 6) to Rs 367. While Gujarat Ambuja is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 445, Grasim is marginally up at Rs 1,290.

Bajaj has scaled down 3.52% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,045. Hero Honda and Tata Motors are up a per cent each at Rs 541 adn Rs 473, respectively.
