Sensex sheds 224pts; SBI drops 6%

The Sensex is now down 224 points at 13,576.

SBI has plunged nearly 6% (Rs 80) to Rs 1,274. ICICI Bank has tumbled over 5% to Rs 831, and HDFC Bank has dropped 4.3% to Rs 1,039.

Tata Steel has shed over 4% to Rs 463. Hindalco has slipped 2% to Rs 176.

ACC, Reliance Communications and Maruti have declined around 2.5% each to Rs 1,076, Rs 437 and Rs 911, respectively.

NTPC, Hero Honda and Bharti Airtel are down over 2% each to Rs 148, Rs 728 and Rs 620, respectively.

Out of 2,424 stocks traded so far, 1,537 have declined, 833 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
