The Sensex opened 90 points lower at 9,316. After touching a high of 9,331, the index slipped deeper into red and is now down 257 points at 9,149.
Wipro has slumped 9.5% to Rs 227. Reliance Infrastructure has plunged 6.5% to Rs 483, and Hindalco has shed 5.5% to Rs 50.
Reliance has dropped 4.5% to Rs 1,099. TCS and NTPC have tumbled 4% each to Rs 514 and Rs 171, respectively.
BHEL has slipped 3.7% to Rs 1,364. Bharti Airtel has declined 3.3% to Rs 616.
ITC, Tata Steel, HDFC and Infosys are down 3% each at Rs 164, Rs 208, Rs 1,599 and Rs 1,160, respectively.
Jaiprakash Associates, however, has gained 1.6% at Rs 70.
