Sensex slipping again; Sterlite, Tata Power shed 6%

The Sensex has drifted back towards the day's low, and is now down 171 points at 8,929. The index had opened with a negative gap of 200 points at 8,901, and soon touched a low of 8,887 this morning. The index, thereafter, recovered partially and touched a high of 9,051.

ICICI Bank and Sterlite have slumped over 6% each to Rs 373 and Rs 242, respectively.

Tata Power has tumbled 5.8% to Rs 725, and Ranbaxy has shed 5.3% at Rs 203.

HDFC and Wipro have plunged around 4% each to Rs 1,421 and Rs 219, respectively.

DLF, Reliance Infrastructure and Grasim have dropped around 3.5% each to Rs 183, Rs 532 and Rs 1,171, respectively.

 

Tata Steel has slipped over 3% to Rs 189. Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and Reliance have declined nearly 3% each to Rs 292, Rs 598 and Rs 544, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has surged over 3% to Rs 254.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,220 stocks traded so far, 1,313 have declined, 818 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
