Sensex slips 190pts; Satyam, Sterlite shed 7%

The Sensex is now down 190 points at 8,725 on the back of continued weakness in select frontline stocks.

Satyam and Sterlite have slumped over 7% each to Rs 224 and Rs 204, respectively.

DLF and Tata Steel have tumbled over 6% each to Rs 186 and Rs 150, respectively.

ICICI Bank and SBI have plunged 5.5% each to Rs 317 and Rs 1,119, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Grasim have shed around 4.5% each at Rs 295 and Rs 894, respectively.

Reliance Communications has slipped nearly 4% to Rs 199. HDFC Bank has declined 3.5% to Rs 826.

ONGC, HDFC, Hindalco and Wipro are down around 3% each at Rs 668, Rs 1,355, Rs 50 and Rs 223, respectively.

 

Reliance Infrastructure has gained 2% at Rs 495. Tata Power is up over 1% at Rs 638.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,389 stocks traded so far, 1,4297 have declined, 890 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
