Sensex slips 229pts; Satyam, Tata Steel drag

The Sensex has slipped deeper into red and is now down 229 points at 14,129.

Satyam and Tata Steel have dropped 2% each to Rs 458 and Rs 564, respectively.

BHEL and HDFC have shed 1.8% each to Rs 1,574 and Rs 1,853, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra and HDFC Bank have slipped 1.5% each to Rs 648 and Rs 1,078, respectively.

Wipro, ONGC and ICICI Bank are down over 1% each at Rs 464, Rs 810 and Rs 824, respectively.

Reliance Energy is the only notable gainer among the index stocks.
