Sensex slips 33pts; NTPC surges 4%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 60 points at 10,755. The index touched a high of 10,800, and then slipped in red to a low of 10,645.

The index finally settled with a loss of 33 points at 10,662.

INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS

NTPC surged 3.7% to Rs 115. Dr.Reddy's gained 3.3% at Rs 1,327. HDFC added 2.5% to Rs 1,159.

SBI advanced 1.7% to Rs 755. Tata Motors, Satyam, HDFC Bank and ACC were up over 1% each at Rs 796, Rs 727, Rs 787 and Rs 789, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro slipped over 3% to Rs 2,191. ITC shed 2.8% to Rs 179. Reliance Communications dropped 2.5% to Rs 247.

Ranbaxy, Cipla, HLL and ONGC were down around 2% each at Rs 349, Rs 210, Rs 232 and Rs 1,102, respectively.

Bharti Airtel was down 1.8% at Rs 363.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

Reliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 126 crore followed by Tata Steel (Rs 111.50 crore), VSNL (Rs 100 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 81.57 crore) and SBI (Rs 80.15 crore).

G V Films led the volume chart with trades of around 70 lakh shares followed by Himachal Futuristic (26.20 lakh), VSNL (24.80 lakh), SAIL (21 lakh) and ITC (20.72 lakh).
