Sensex slips 78pts; realty stocks buck trend

The Sensex opened 89 points higher at 8,535 backed by a bounce back in banking stocks. The index, however, could not hold gains for long as it soon slipped into red. The index has now extended losses and is down 78 points at 8,369.

Realty stocks, however, have bucked the trend today.

DLF has surged 2% to Rs 151. Among none-Sensex realty stocks. Orbit Corporation has rallied nearly 4% to Rs 46. Akruti City, Ansal Infrastructure, HDIL, Indiabulls Realestate, Mahindra Lifespace, Parsvnath, Peninsula Land, Phoenix Mills and Sobha Developers are up 1-3% each.

Sterlite has gained 2% at Rs 251. Tata Steel has added 1% to Rs 159.

 

Ranbaxy has plunged over 4% to Rs 153. Tata Power has tumbled over 3% to Rs 653.

Bharti Airtel has shed 2.7% at Rs 585. ITC has dropped 2.5% to Rs 170, and Mahindra & Mahindra has slipped over 2% to Rs 308.

ICICI Bank, Jaiprakash Associates and NTPC have declined 1.7% each to Rs 279, Rs 64 and Rs 177, respectively.

Grasim, BHEL, ONGC and Reliance are down around 1.5% each at Rs 1,394, Rs 1,312, Rs 655 and Rs 1,193, respectively.
